7 Tips to Keep Your Pipes From Freezing

December 18, 2019 By bhaynet1@aol.com

Frozen water pipes can easily burst, causing thousands of dollars in damage. So BEFORE temperatures take another deep dive, follow these easy tips to prevent your pipes from freezing:

1. Seal up any cracks with caulk or foam insulation where pipes run from inside to outside the home, such as dryer vents or water pipes.
2. Wrap your pipes with foam or fiberglass sleeves to decrease the chances of freezing.
3. Add insulation if you have pipes located in unheated areas such as attics or crawl spaces.
4. During a cold snap, keep your thermostat set to the same temperature during the day AND night.
5. Let your faucets drip (just a trickle!), especially if water lines are located on exterior walls.
6. Open kitchen and cabinet doors to allow heat to get to un-insulated pipes under sinks and appliances near exterior walls.
7. Apply UL-Listed heating tape or cables to vulnerable pipes in unheated or exterior locations.

Mendham Plywood is here if you need help determining the best way to prevent frozen pipes in you home. Stop on by or call us at 973-543-776
